Outside of a little wind and rain, Hurricane Earl did little to disrupt the weekend on the East End.

I headed out to Montauk thinking I would see some wild conditions. And though the surf was impressive, what was even more amazing was how good the fishing was on Sunday and Monday.

Anglers Marta Peterson, Bob Kelly and Marshall Helfin closed out the fluke season aboard the Lazybones on Monday with six-pound fluke while Matt Kirch took the pool with a 10.3-pounder.

On The Ebb Tide, Tara Cardoza closed out the season by winning the pool with a 9.12-pound fluke.

Ahead of Earl, bass were thick along the East End beaches Thursday and Friday, especially at East Hampton's Main Beach.

Along Amagansett and Napeague beaches weak

fish are starting to show in the surf and we get that from some local fishermen.

The 35th annual Norwalk Boat Show takes place Sept. 23-26, 2010 at Norwalk Cove Marina, and this one offers up nostalgia among boating enthusiasts and history buffs with its special-edition 'History of Boating in America' exhibit.

This special attraction will feature museum-quality classic and antique boats from private collectors and classic boat manufacturers, plus expert insight and commentary from World War II PT (Patrol Torpedo) boat historians and noted restoration professionals.

Highlights of the exhibit include an original Elco electric launch boat (1899) under restoration, World War II PT replicas, a rare collectible mahogany triple-cockpit runabout, and other classic boats on land and in water.

Visitors also will have the opportunity to see museum-quality boat restoration in action as experts continue their work to restore the 32-foot 1899 Elco Electric Launch Wenona on site.
