One year later, Long Island City pulled off the upset.
After falling in the Queens borough quarterfinals by two points last year, the fifth-seeded Bulldogs topped No. 4 Beach Channel, 45-43, on Tuesday to advance to the Queens semis, the only ‘A’ team to do so.
Sadji Camara hit four 3-pointers and scored 18 points, Arthur Santanna had 10 points and 14 rebounds and Kevin Green Jr. notched eight points, seven rebounds and four assists for LIC (22-2), which just wrapped up its second straight undefeated league season in Queens A West. It will visit top-seeded Bayside, the Queens AA regular season champion, in the semifinals Thursday at 5 p.m. Beach Channel falls to 9-6.
No. 1 Bayside 61, No. 8 John Adams 41: Uzonna Akazi had 23 points, five rebounds and four blocks, Brandon King scored 13 points and Vincent England had eight for Bayside (19-4), which led 29-9 at halftime and hosts fifth-seeded Long Island City in the semifinals Thursday at 5 p.m. Markell French had 13 points for Adams (11-4)
No. 2 Cardozo 83, No. 7 Construction 46: Tajay Henry had 22 points and 13 rebounds, Kyle Credle followed with 13 points and five assists, Kendall Brown notched 11 points and Omar Williams and Ryan Yearwood each had 10 for Cardozo, which hosts rival Campus Magnet, the third seed, in the semifinals Thursday at 5:15 p.m. The Judges (17-6) blew the game open with a 27-5 fourth quarter. Construction is now 17-7.
