Girls basketball roundup: Harris shoots Bergtraum to ninth straight PSAL win

Murry Bergtraum’s dominance of PSAL opponents continues.

UNC Charlotte-bound guard Shequana Harris had a big day. She poured in 20 points, grabbed nine boards and dished out six assists to help lead the Lady Blazers to a 59-43 win over Brooklyn Collegiate in a PSAL Class AA girls basketball game Thursday in Brooklyn. It’s their ninth straight PSAL win.

Alexandria Smith scored 11 points and grabbed 10 points for Bergtraum (13-5, 11-2 Bronx/Man/Queens AA) and Ashanae McLaughlin added 11 points of her own. Briani Wallace paced Brooklyn Collegiate (8-15, 4-11) with 12 points and 12 boards and Tajzhane Dopson chipped in eight points and eight boards.

PSAL CLASS A

Hunter College 44, Washington Irving 25: Dominque Russell poured in 20 points and Amy Chan had 14 for Hunter (5-8) in Manhattan A East. Washington Irving is 1-13.

Clara Barton 58, Prospect Heights 13: Akeesha Belfon scored 11 points for Clara Barton (10-3) in Brooklyn A East. Ashley Andrews and Fortunate Ekwuruke each added eight points. Prospect Heights is 0-13

Martin Van Buren 52, Beach Channel 44: Karina Wong tallied 30 points, 10 assists and seven rebounds for Van Buren in 4-11 in Queens A East. Jasmine Tucker had 14 points and nine assists. Beach Channel is 0-14.

John Adams 46, Queen HS of Teaching 38: Janaya Nelson scored 11 points and grabbed 14 points for John Adams (10-4) in Queens A East. Grace Sabatini added nine points. Queens HS of Teaching is 6-8.

Hillcrest 52, Thomas Edison 29: Danielle Pearce tallied 29 points and eight rebounds for Hillcrest (12-3) in Queens A East. Desire Edwards added eight points. Thomas Edison is 2-12.

PSAL CLASS B

Robert F. Kennedy 39, Campus Magnet 32: Julia Toth dropped in 16 points and Mariah Rosario added 10 and 11 rebounds for Robert F. Kennedy (5-8) in Queens B East. Shakira Overton chipped in seven. Campus Magnet is 7-6.

Springfield Gardens 47, Scholars Academy 47: Alysha Adams scored 14 points and Nyasia Goddard added 12 for Springfield Gardens (9-4) in Queens B East. Davionne Moore chipped in 10 points. Taylor Gallagher paced Scholars (11-2) with 14 points.

Queens Vocational 57, Robert Wagner 34: Shakirra Smith poured in 20 points and 18 points for Queens Vocational (14-0) in Queens B West. Michelle Rojas had 12 points and Eliana Moronto 10. Robert Wagner is 3-11.

Academy of American Studies 36, Information Technology 16: Hui Hui Chen scored 11 points for Academy of American Studies (13-1) in Queens B West. Adriana Stosic added six points and 14 rebounds. Information Technology is 9-5.

IVY LEAGUE

Poly Prep 68, Riverdale 37: Katie Friel scored 19 points and Jacquie Kennedy had 17 for Poly Prep (12-1, 6-1) Wednesday. Jessica Dahldorf added 10 points, including two 3-pointers. Tori Goodell paced Riverdale (4-8, 1-7) with 10 points.
