Two pedestrians were fatally mowed down within minutes of each other in separate incidents this morning, authorities said.
About 3 a.m., a 24-year-old man waiting to cross the street at 46th Street and Greenpoint Avenue in Sunnyside was struck by a boozed-up driver, cops said. The victim’s name hasn’t yet been released pending family notification.
Police arrested the driver of the gray 2003 Mercury Grand Marquis, 58-year-old Avedis Sayesh of Brooklyn. He was held on charges of manslaughter, vehicular manslaughter, criminally negligent homicide and drunken driving.
According to police, Sayesh lost control of his vehicle and hit the victim and then several parked cars before stopping in front of a flower shop. The victim was taken to Elmhurst Hospital, where he later died.
Less than 15 minutes alter, a 47-year-old-man leaving an Ozone Park bar was killed by a hit-and-run driver.
Victim Rohan Singh of Queens was crossing Liberty Avenue near 108th Street about 3:15 a.m. when he was struck by a vehicle headed east on Liberty Avenue. The vehicle, a black sedan, sped away without stopping. Singh was taken to Jamaica Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
