A statue of iconic former New York Mayor Fiorello La Guardia on a Greenwich Village street was defaced with pink and gray paint over the weekend, and local residents are furious.
Friends of La Guardia Place board member Rick Bell said he hopes the vandalism wasn’t a political protest.
“He was someone who defended the rights of poor people,” Bell said of the late La Guardia — a k a the Little Flower — New York’s mayor from 1934 to 1945.
