This piano recital really bombed.
“The Hurt Locker” met “The Piano” in Williamsburg Brooklyn today, when a an abandoned keyboard left in a pile of garbage sparked a scare that prompted the bomb squad to jump into action.
The musical mayhem started at about 1:45 p.m, when a witness called 911 to report a suspicious bag lying on the sidewalk at 174 Scholes St.
Officers arrived on the scene and saw the bag — and were disturbed to hear that it was beeping ominously.
Fearing an explosive situation, an NYPD supervisor quickly called in an explosives disposal team.
An officer dressed in a large, shielded bomb resistant suit approached the dubious container.
People in nearby buildings were evacuated, and a huge crowd of onlookers gathered to watch the dangerous work.
The police soon realized, however, that they were wrong to call in the bomb squad to deal with the bag’s contents — they should have called in Billy Joel.
Inside the bag, was nothing but a harmless electronic keyboard, which happened to be beeping for some reason. It was not clear who left it there.
After making the discovery, the bomb squad officer held the offending instrument up and appeared to examen it through his face shield. He then threw into the air and smashed it into pieces.
The scene was declared clear shortly after 3 p.m.
