It’s a nice day for a garden party

The final day of Fashion Week kicked off with a pastoral picnic at Ralph Lauren; sherbet-hued daywear was shown in robin’s egg blue shredded cableknits, silky apple green shirts and daffodil floral print skirts. Gauze flutter-sleeve dresses met their menswear match in the chic-est of pinstriped, double-breasted suiting. For evening, it was long and lean with silky ivory gowns trimmed in deco beading, complete with ostrich-feather fixings; some were topped with crystal cloches. We could easily see front-row fan Olivia Wilde donning one of those slinky numbers for her next red carpet affair.

Meanwhile, at St. Patrick’s Cathedral, threeASFOUR took a journey to the Middle East: breezy black-and-white tunics bearing the Star of David, gumball-sized evil-eye appliques, and broken mosaics were presented in the cathedral’s in-house gymnasium, which served as an appropriate venue given the collection’s theme of breaking cultural barriers.

It was business as usual at Calvin Klein — working in a strict color palette of eggshell, nude and black, creative director Francisco Costa marched to the beat of his minimalist drum: whisper-thin slip dresses surprised with rear-pleated panels, camisoles were decorated with delicately fluted hems and sharply tailored collarless jackets looked perfect for throwing over your shoulder on chilly spring nights. Sheer bib-front dresses revealed little lacy bras — apparently something will come between you and your Calvins this spring.

And at a much more glitzy affair, Naeem Khan’s silver-mirrored runway had us seeing double. Not that that’s a bad thing. We fell hard for his full-skirted grommeted frocks — they were just the right amount good-girl-Khan-bad. Column gowns were heavy on the beading and the prettiest of butterfly prints. A fluttery, sleeved white chiffon caftan with crystal embellishments is sure to make any beach bride swoon.
