FOR CLIMBERS
* Big Bambu: The massive art installation on the Met’s roof — composed of 5,000 bamboo poles ranging from 15 to 50 feet and connected with 50 miles of nylon rope — has been steadily growing since it opened in late April, as artists Doug and Mike Starn and a team of rock climbers continue to add the structure. “Even if a visitor comes every day, they’ll still see something different on each and every visit,” says exhibit curator Anne Strauss, noting that visitors now can see New Jersey and “well past” the George Washington Bridge. Tickets are required for guided tours through the structure and are available on a first-come, first-served basis with museum admission.

Metropolitan Museum of Art, 1000 Fifth Ave., at 82nd Street; 212-535-7710, metmuseum.org. Through Oct. 31. Suggested donation: $20 for adults. Open daily except Monday; see Web site for hours.

FOR URBAN FORAGERS
* New York Botanical Garden’s Edible Garden: The slew of activities here will reveal how to integrate ordinary garden items such as basil, lavender and chili peppers into your meals. Weekdays offer access to special exhibition gardens, daily cooking demonstrations in the Conservatory Kitchen and a celebrity chef audio tour. The folks from the Union Square’s Greenmarket will demonstrate how to make nutritious meals every Wednesday. Don’t miss the Sept. 21 cocktail party in the garden (general admission costs $30) when domestic doyenne Martha Stewart will divulge her secrets for growing and using herbs in end-of-summer cocktails.

New York Botanical Garden, Bronx River Parkway at Fordham Road; 718-817-8700, nybg.org. 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. through Oct. 17. Admission to New York Botanical Garden, $6 (adults). Check Web site for other prices and admission to Edible Garden events.

FOR PORK LOVERS
* Pig Island: This Governors Island cookout will offer all things pig — such as smoked pork, Vietnamese pork soup and maple bacon sticky buns — from a dozen New York chefs, including Delicatessen’s Michael Ferraro. A bluegrass band will add to the Southern barbecue flavor, and those who don’t want to buy a $75 ticket can sip Sixpoint Craft Ales and eat snacks in a nearby beer garden. “It definitely has a summer outdoor party feel,” says organizer Jimmy Carbone. “Everyone’s back in New York from vacation — and you can just go down to Governors Island instead of going to the Hamptons.”

Governors Island ferries leave from the Battery Maritime Building at 10 South St.; ilikepig.com. Oct. 2, 11:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Admission: $75.
