Rangers to visit Flyers for 2012 Winter Classic: report

The Rangers will play the Flyers in the 2012 NHL Winter Classic in Philadelphia, according to a local report.

Phillyburbs.com says the outdoor game, usually held New Year's Day, will be played Jan. 2 at Citizens Bank Park, home of the Phillies.

Lincoln Financial Field is not available because the Eagles play host to the Redskins on Jan. 1, which next year falls on a Sunday, filling it with NFL games. That is why the NHL has moved its fifth-annual event to Monday.

This year's game between the Capitals and Penguins in Pittsburgh had to be moved from afternoon to evening due to weather concerns.

The Rangers never have played in the Winter Classic. The Flyers lost to the Bruins in Fenway Park in 2010.
