Metal act Avenged Sevenfold's music videos tend to be a mix of creepy and crazy, but the band's latest clip for ballad "So Far Away" is a simple, touching tribute to late drummer Jimmy "The Rev" Sullivan, who reportedly died of natural causes in December 2009.

The bulk of the video is of the remaining members of the band - M. Shadows, Synyster Gates, Johnny Christ and Zacky Vengeance - in the recording studio, mixed in with kid actors recreating likely scenarios from the bandmates' childhood. But, midway through, it veers off into tribute territory with clips and stills from The Rev's life. The whole package is quite moving, especially if you're a fan who remembers how much fun these guys were obviously having together on stage.

All of this makes sense, considering the song was written with The Rev in mind.

"It was actually Synyster's first attempt and success at writing lyrics for an entire song," Johnny Christ has explained. "It was very much him speaking his peace to Jimmy in the song and I think he did a great job. Overall the song has a somber kind of one voice, one guitar kind of feel - of course we play everything else in it - but the feel is very much dark and one guitar and one voice and everything comes together in a very touching outro."
